Dobropillya — a city whose population disappeared in two days
The city of Dobropillya, situated 22 kilometers northeast of Pokrovsk, has long been a key logistics hub in the Donbas region.
Back in the spring of 2025, civilians from Pokrovsk and other towns were evacuated here. Dobropillya was considered safe, at least as a temporary place for displaced persons. Public transportation, a shopping center, and a large number of cafes and restaurants were operating, though it was challenging to find a seat due to long lines.
Everything changed in August, when the enemy attempted to break through toward Dobropillya. Locals say most of the population left the city within two days. This fact is confirmed by official authorities, who report that approximately 20,000 people have been evacuated.
Of the 22,000 who lived in Dobropillia at the beginning of 2025, the city now has approximately 1,000 residents.
